10 Top Posts on Caribbean Chilling

A visit to the Caribbean can be as chilled out as you can handle. And yes, the sand really is brochure white. But what you might not know before you start looking at the blogs and brochures is that there are more than 7000 islands, (also known as the West Indies) each with a different character and mood. To help you choose a holiday paradise, we feature ten useful posts from bloggers who blazed a trail, drank a cocktail and put on their flip flops and flippers to investigate life on and off the islands…

Best islands

A popular way to discover the Caribbean is on a cruise. Gary Bembridge who blogs at Tips for Travellers spends a lot of time cruising and has written several posts about Caribbean island stops. Here he looks at what makes the island of Dominica special. If you prefer to listen to his opinions rather than reading, then check out this post featuring a podcast of tips from three different islands; St Thomas, St Maarten and Dominica.

Cathy Winston who blog at Mummy Travels stopped off on her cruise with her young daughter to explore the lesser visited island of Grand Turk and made a few surprise discoveries.

Fiona Maclean flew in to Antigua, but connected with the Caribbean Sea when she arrived during Sailing Week. She also wrote an interesting post about the colonial heritage of the island.

Zoe Dawes who blogs as the Quirky Traveller hit St Kitts in this award winning post and found loads to enjoy – not all of it as laid back as you’d imagine – Rainforest zip lining anyone?

Best beaches

Emma from Paper Planes and Caramel Waffles headed straight for the glorious sand to bring you a jealousy inducing report of five of the best beaches, spread far and wide across the islands.

Best for families

Lisa and Richard from Travel Loving Family also put together a top five. They pick out what they consider the best Caribbean islands for families and their post is full of useful tips for parents.

A couple of bloggers homed in on family fun on individual islands. Ting Dalton from My Travel Monkey checked out the family fun to be had in Barbados.

And on Gretta Schifano’s blog Mums Do Travel, a guest post by freelance journalist Sharmeen Ziauddin looked at what families can do 100 miles from Barbados on St Lucia; one of the Caribbean’s most mountainous islands.

Best for you?

  1. Thanks for including my top five Caribbean islands for families Sally. I was the Caribbean Travel Specialist for A&K prior to setting up my family travel blog. I love the Caribbean, the region has so much to offer for families and is often overlooked as a destination only for couples.
