Blogger Tales of the Unexpected

Travel can help you see things differently – Image by Kirstie Pelling
Some of the places we are lucky enough to visit change the way we see travel, the world, cultural identity, and most importantly introduce us to new flavours of dessert, says Emma Julia who blogs at Adventures of a London Kiwi. In this post she touches base with bloggers about some of the unexpected places that can offer up unexpected things…

One of the biggest delights in globetrotting is discovering unexpected places that broaden our horizons and enable us to share those hotdog-leg photos, right?

Danielle @Chicadeedee found that Copenhagen surprised her, again and again. With not knowing what to expect, she was rewarded with interesting architecture, colourful buildings, everything within walking distance, and a castle in a park right near the city centre.
With only 24 hours to explore, Jaklien at Passport and Toothbrush drew on her boots to wander Milan by foot, and discovered a few rather pretty and rather unexpected spots.
Jaime @ Angloyankophile’s greatest surprise has been revisiting a destination she had previously disliked – and the 360-degree change in opinion that followed. Recent second chances for Amsterdam and Bordeaux seemed to have changed her mind somewhat…

For most people, travelling = plane. End of the story. And then we all complain about the crazy prices, the long queues at security, the lack of legroom, the dehydrated skin syndrome and the horrendous airplane food but Sandra @ Cake and Whiskey recently discovered the unexpected delight of being ferried around…

Rachel, a self-confessed nesting nomad discovered a surprising destination thanks to passing a motorway exit for somewhere called Trogir, near Split Airport.

Clare @ Suitcases and Sandcastles shared a few of her not so jubilant experiences – the times when travel can be frustrating, overwhelming and even frightening. They can make for an epic story though…

Skipping her way through summer sunshine, Jessi @ Two Feet One World found herself with a floral revelation whilst visiting Keukenhof’s gorgeous tulip gardens just outside Amsterdam.

Whereas I discovered one of the oldest towns in Ye Olde Englande almost by accident – intending to spend an afternoon in a London coffee shop, wanderlust siezed my soul and took me to almost all the way to the coast and for a wander around Colchester

There is a simple, delicious excitement in exploring the unfamiliar…
