Ten Top Tips for Travelling in Italy

Ciao from Italia!

If you’re thinking of heading to Italy this summer, Trips100 bloggers have some fab recommendations and reviews. In this post, we’re sharing our ten favourite tips from travel bloggers for new visitors to some of Italy’s most popular destinations.

  • Heading to Verona? The guide books often don’t mention the amazing fortifications but they’re actually a UNESCO World Heritage Site – as explained by Worldwide Writer in this detailed guide to Verona.
  • Is Tuscany on your summer agenda? The London Mum has discovered that you can actually tour the town of Volterra, as featured in the famous Twilight series. Alternatively, you might wish to avoid all those Twihards on busy summer days…
  • Visiting Florence? The best spot to see the city from above is Giotto’s Bell Tower – there are 400 steps but the views are definitely worth the climb, says Jess from Love and London!
  • Heading to Rome this summer? Don’t forget to pick up an Omnia card to cut the cost of visiting key attractions, says Face the Fun!
  • There are plenty of gorgeous sights in Milan, but a top tip from Continental Breakfast Travel is not to miss the vintage trams, brightly coloured, and the perfect spot from which to see the sights!

  • You can’t visit Italy and not order coffee from a pavement cafe, but how to order? Ordering a latte in Italy will just get you a glass of milk, as This City Life discovered!
  • There are plenty of tips on travelling in Italy by train in this fab post over at Heels in my Backpack – our favourite is that you can buy tickets at small stations from the red machines on the station, which will do a better job of telling you train times than asking the station staff in dodgy Italian!
  • Luxury Columnist’s top tip for visits to the Amalfi Coast are worth a read – our favourite is her advice to visit the free, public gardens at Villa Rufolo for amazing views over the Mediterranean.
  • Wondering what foodie treats to pack in your suitcase after a trip to Umbria? Happen Upon’s top tip is to stock up on pancetta and wild boar lomo – check out the blog for the full list.
  • Struggling with the heat in Italy during the summer? We love all the tips on coping with summer heat shared by Dream Italia, but perhaps our favourite? “If you can, fold the sheets and put them in the fridge for a couple of hours before bedtime – it sounds weird but it totally works!”

Thanks to all the bloggers for sharing these tips – what are your top tips for travel to Italy this summer?
