Top Travel Blog May

Our top pick of travel blogs this month is a partnership between Kach and Jonathan Howe. The couple blog at Two Monkeys Travel Group on how to sustain a life of travel and you’ll often find them checking out luxury and adventure travel. Check out this Q and A with Kach where she gives her thoughts on the highs and lows of keeping on travelling…

What inspired you to start blogging?

I had read a lot of travel blogs in the past but I had no idea how to make it work for us! We were in India in 2014 when we learned it could be possible to earn a decent living from travel blogging. As well as our families and friends encouraging us to share our travel and love stories, we were keen to learn how we could earn money from travel blogging as another way to support our sustainable travel lifestyle.

What destination was your first “proper” blog review?

It all started in Peru. We started the blog in April 2014 but stopped after 2 months of blogging. We then resumed in November 2014 and at the same time we were able to parter with an eco-lodge near Colca Canyon, the second deepest canyon in the world.

Have you ever been anywhere you really didn’t like?

We both agreed that despite the beautiful Taj Mahal, neither of us could stand Agra, India. We also found the town of San Pedro de Atacama in Chile to be massively overrated.

Where’s the best meal you’ve ever eaten – what was it?

Oh it’s hard to choose, we’ve had wonderful dishes in Israel, Morocco, Arequipa and Peru! I think we would have to choose the Ceviche in a small restaurant close to our apartment in Arequipa.

What’s your favourite view in the world?

The scenery that we saw while hitchhiking in Patagonia, Chile for a month and the beautiful view of the Atlas mountains during our motorbike trip around South Morocco.

Which other blogs do you love to read?

We love Nomadic MattExpert Vagabond and Tim Ferris – They are all inspiring travellers, entrepreneurs and they share their knowledge for success with others.

What’s been the most popular post on your site?

Aside from all the travel-related articles on our site, our most popular post on organic search is my article about the “Truth and Lies of Filipinos with Foreigners” which talks about the reality and most common misconceptions of interracial dating and particularly between both of our nationalities.
What tips do you have for newer bloggers who would love to emulate your success?
Start with a business plan and set aside an initial “capital investment” if you’re serious about making money by travel blogging. But as for your material, just continue being sincere with your audience, write what you feel passionate about and it will grow naturally. If you want to read more, here’s how we monetize our travel blog.
