How has the Corona Virus Affected your Travel Plans?

cancelled travel

A week is a long time when talking about Corona virus. When I proposed this article the UK was very much watching and waiting to see if it reached our shores. I asked our parent travel bloggers how the virus was influencing their travel plans. Many replied. Then we saw flight cancellations, cruise cancellations, and now we’re advised against non-essential travel. So, how has the virus impacted on our travel plans?

I am going to Holland on Friday morning. It hasn’t stopped us travelling. Although cancelled flights are not covered by the insurance that I have. The flights that I am more concerned about are the flights to Turkey in May. Although Corona virus hasn’t hit Turkey yet, I am travelling with Norwegian Air. Their shares have plummeted 25% since Corona virus broke out and now I’m concerned they will be the next casualties of air companies going bankrupt.

We are due to travel to New York in May and are very much of the stance that as long as we are allowed to go we will go – our insurance only covers us if we are told by the government not to travel and we figure we have just as much chance of getting ill at home as on holiday . . .

We have decided to have a staycation at Easter instead of going abroad. We had contemplated driving to France and staying at an Airbnb but instead, we are staying at a rental property near the coast in East Sussex. It works out slightly cheaper, involves less travel and most importantly, we don’t need to worry about whether we will definitely be able to go or not. For our summer holiday, we booked it back in September so will assume we will go unless the flights are cancelled!

We are meant to be going to Disneyland Paris in a few weeks. We are watching and waiting to see if the parks are going to close. We are in the mindset that we are going unless they tell us we can’t travel. We also want to go to New York in October and I’m starting to put plans in place. I’m will be double checking that we have the correct travel insurance in place.

We are planning a trip to see family at Easter and then a family staycation to the Midlands in May and, unless we have government advice otherwise, we are still planning on going. We tend to prefer staying in this country for now so it is business as usual for us.

After a 6 month contract, the only days I’ve had off have been for two funerals and training. Pretty exhausted and have booked a few weeks off in April. Now my search for sun could end up being a family camping trip in the UK, weather dependant. Going to wait to the last minute and make a judgement.

We were planning to travel to Austria during Easter break. Looking at the current situation, we have cancelled our hotel and car reservations. Our flight carrier has been kind enough to allow ONE free date change.

We are planning to stay at home as much as possible until the situation has improved. We have a holiday booked but are very aware that we might have to cancel and lose our money. With a young baby, we would rather not take the risk.

We have a trip to Majorca booked for early May and have our fingers crossed it will go ahead. If it gets cancelled then we will of course heed that advice, but assuming flights are still running we are happy to travel as normal.

We are going to Greece in 4 weeks time and have no concerns about travelling. Our only concern is that the flights may well be cancelled which leaves us no choice. That said we are due to visit Italy for six weeks in the summer and for now we are putting those plans on hold until there is further information.

I’ve been shopping online and avoiding busy public places when possible. I’ve also waited to book our holidays for the year ahead as, bar the thought of flights being cancelled and plans ruined anyway, I don’t feel as though I can get excited about going away. The thought of getting ill and everywhere I want to visit being shut just isn’t appealing.

We are currently in Singapore and life is pretty much normal here and not as bad as what media said. Maybe the frontline staffs have most of the impact of the virus. Nevertheless, two week ago, we still fly to Singapore despite all these. Definitely didn’t affect us too much but the only negative thing is people are not happy that we are going to Asia countries. I did avoid crowded area and wash my hands more frequently! Also, there are lots of hand sanitizers around lifts entrance and certain places!

We are actively looking for flights for over Easter in the hopes that prices will come down (which sounds a bit harsh – but I have no control over prices so my hopes that they will be cheaper has no impact on the actual outcome!) We have several holidays booked over the next few months and I have no intention of cancelling unless officially advised against travel.

We haven’t booked a holiday yet this year and we have now decided to wait and see what happens. We can’t afford to lose money and not be covered by insurance.

We haven’t booked but more because of worries over losing money due to airlines going bust rather than Corona virus! I wouldn’t be worried at all were it not for so many companies going bust just lately and now that flights may well be cancelled to popular destinations it really doesn’t give me much peace of mind.

We were originally going to road trip down to Morocco during the Easter holidays but with quite a few cases confirmed in Andalusia, which we’d be driving through, we’ve decided against it and have provisionally booked a road trip within our country of residence, Portugal. That said, I booked accommodation via booking.com in case we need to cancel, so we won’t lose too much if it comes to it. We’ll still keep an eye on things and decide closer to our dates.

wavesOur daughter was supposed to fly to Madrid for a four day Spanish trip with school last Saturday. The school cancelled it because they didn’t want to take the risk of having children and teachers stuck in a quarantine position, not able to get home.

We’ve put off booking anything for the summer holidays just in case of travel bans etc. I’d hate to not be able to go and lose money. I guess we will see what happens nearer the time and perhaps book a cheeky trip then

I have four holidays booked this year and will be continuing my trips as planned. Unless the FCO advises against air travel or travel to specific destinations at which point I will have to reconsider. I am travelling to France is 2 weeks and will be taking the precautions of wiping down my seating area on the plane with anti-bacterial wipes and using hand sanitiser when soap and water is not available.

We booked a holiday last year to Turkey, which then got cancelled when Thomas Cook went bust. We re-booked in January and we are determined to go. We need a family holiday and some sunshine. We will take extra precautions, but like any type of virus you can pick it up wherever you are.

Unless we are told otherwise and there is specific travel advice for specific regions – we aren’t worrying unduly. I trust WHO and the government to give us the right, medically informed, advice so we will just do what we were going to be doing and enjoy the usual time away. I’ve just travelled in the UK in the last week and see no reason yet to change habits. Good hygiene and following the official line works for us and we are sticking to it!

We have a holiday booked to Gran Canaria in the Easter holidays. It’s the first school holiday we’ve booked. As prices shoot up in holidays, it took so long to find and book one that was in our budget that we won’t be cancelling unless the government recommends it.

We were planning to take a Disney Cruise in May but won’t be going now. It just doesn’t seem worth the risk – though the children definitely don’t agree.

We are off to Athens this weekend and I will be doing my usual inflight routine but that is all. I wipe down my seat tray with anti bac wipes and around my seat area. I also bring a spray bottle with tea tree oil and eucalyptus oil to spray the head rest and my area. Have done this for years in long haul flights but will now be doing it on short haul. My blog is.

I have a staycation at the end of the month where I will visit the lakes, Torquay, London and Poole. We are from the Scottish highland we will be drive to each place! I am not changing my plans! I also have a month long holiday in France, Andorra and Spain in June in our van conversion! I am asthmatic and technically in the at risk group! I have had swine flu! I am not scared of this! I am healthy and look after myself. Swine flu did not scare me nether will this! I will take normal precautions as I would when I normally travel!

We were planning on booking flights to Spain to go and spend it with my mum and her partner at Easter, but with the current increase in cases in Spain, and the fact that my 90 year old Nanna will be coming to stay with me for 2 weeks afterwards, I don’t want to risk her health anymore than necessary whilst visiting us. We have decided to postpone until later in the year when things are much clearer.

We had booked a honeymoon to Japan (which we’ve just come back from). Lots of people were surprised we went but lots of travel insurance doesn’t cover these type of situations. We didn’t want to lose thousands of pounds and we’d waited so long for the trip. I actually got sick while we were out there and have been in quarantine since we returned, waiting for a Covid-19 test. Getting poorly was disappointing but what was worse that we had to cancel parts of our trip while we were out there as Japan started to shut public spaces down. If I’d known that was going to happen I might have cancelled sooner. Having said that I’m still so pleased we went and I have regrets, despite being in quarantine!

We were supposed to be picking up a motorhome from tuscany at the beginning of the Easter Holidays. I was getting anxious about heading out there but now the company has cancelled the trip anyway. They said we could postpone until the end of April but unfortunately we cannot take time off school. We were so looking forward to our adventure. I’m wanting something to look forward to now but I’m apprehensive about how long the virus is going to be around and how serious it’s going to get.

We are due to go to Disneyland Paris over Easter. I am not changing anything at the moment, but I am keeping a very close eye on the situation both here and in France. I can change dates up to a week before so will make a final call the first week of April. I do think there is likely to be a travel ban in place for France by then though sadly. We are also booked to go to Spain in the 6 weeks holidays for 9 nights, I am hopeful that the situation will be well under control by then.

We have flights booked to Boston for a wedding in June and Walt Disney World in August. We are just staying positive that hopefully we will be allowed to reschedule. We will be gutted if we miss the wedding as we are key parts of the wedding party but also aware the wedding may actually be cancelled and just how health comes first. Likewise Disney World will be there another time and while we will be disappointed there are bigger problems in the world right now than missing a holiday.

So You Know...

As you've likely heard and seen, there's an increasing focus on the authenticity of follower growth and engagement on social platforms across the Influencer Marketing community. The platforms themselves have taken measures to deter inauthentic activity and brands now more closely scrutinise the audiences of the influencers with whom they are partnering.

The Flea Network has implemented a system that will detect abnormal spikes in following and engagement, and flag these properties. Of course, such spikes can often be attributed to viral posts or high-profile brands that bring greater exposure to some content.

If one of your social accounts is flagged by our system without an obvious reason, we may reach out to you for assistance in understanding it. If we find any influencer has artificially inflated their audience size or engagement using paid acquisition or automated, third-party tools, we will remove them permanently from our influencer community.

Feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] with any questions or comments.

Thank you!
